Durante la Guerra Fría, cuatro adversarios se enfrentaron en el continente africano. Los soviéticos querían extender su influencia, Estados Unidos deseaba apropiarse de las riquezas naturales de África, los antiguos imperios sentían vacilar sus potencias coloniales y las jóvenes naciones defendían su recién adquirida independencia. Jóvenes revolucionarios como Patrice Lumumba, Amílcar Cabral o Agostinho Neto pidieron a los guerrilleros cubanos que les ayudaran en su lucha. Cuba tuvo un papel central en la nueva estrategia ofensiva de las naciones del Tercer Mundo contra el colonialismo.

Behind the so-called « cold » war, four adversaries face off in the African continent: the Soviets want to expand their influence; the United States intend to appropriate the continent’s natural riches; the former empires seek to revive their shaky colonial power; and the young nations defend their newly-won independence, armed with an ideal: internationalism. African revolutionaries like Patrice Lumumba, Amílcar Cabral and Agostinho Neto call on Cuban guerrillas to help them in their struggle. Cuba will play a central role on the continent.
