SINOPSIS

En 2008, en vísperas de la crisis económica en Cabo Verde, el uso intensivo de arena para la construcción de hoteles amenaza la existencia de las playas, principal foco de atracción de una floreciente industria turística. En una capital costera en pleno desierto, unos hombres de negocios mauritanos se alegran con la idea de exportar su principal recurso. Empieza un intercambio triangular completado por la explotación de lava volcánica transportada por cargueros. La película sigue en silencio la llegada de una economía de escala, sus flujos y sus efectos transformadores en el paisaje físico y humano de una isla.

In 2008, right before the economical crisis in Cape Verde, the intensive use of sand to build hotels is threatening the existence of the beaches, the main pull of a flourishing tourist industry. At a coastal capital in the middle of the desert, some Mauritian businessmen are happy about the idea of exporting their main resource. A triangular exchange commences that is completed with the exploitation of volcanic lava transported on cargo ships. The film silently follows the arrival of economies of scale, its fluxes and the transformative effects on the physical and human landscape of the island.

En 2008, à la veille de la crise économique, au Cap Vert, l’utilisation intensive du sable pour la construction d’hôtels de luxe menace l’existence des plages, principal pôle d’attraction de l’industrie touristique florissante. Non loin de là, dans une capitale côtière en plein désert, les hommes d’affaires mauritaniens se réjouissent à l’idée d’exporter leur principale ressource. Commence alors un commerce triangulaire complété par l’exploitation de lave volcanique transportée à travers l’océan. Le film suit silencieusement l’arrivée d’une économie d’échelle, de ses flux et des effets de transformation du paysage physique et humain d’une île.
