Este documental es, ante todo, una obra de teatro dentro de una película. Sigue el proceso creativo hasta llegar a la representación. Usando el hip hop, Afrikaaps, tanto la película como la obra, recorre un camino innovador intentando recuperar el afrikáans, considerado el idioma del opresor, para convertirlo en idioma de liberación. Dylan Valley, que estuvo presente desde el principio del proyecto, encuentra momentos en las narrativas personales de los actores y del equipo que trascienden lo que ocurre en la escena.

Ce documentaire est avant tout le récit d’une pièce de théâtre intitulée Afrikaaps. Le film présente tout le processus créatif jusqu’aux représentations. Utilisant le hip hop, Afrikaaps, le film et la pièce, innove en essayant avec impertinence de récupérer l’afrikaans, si longtemps considéré comme la langue de l’oppresseur, et d’en faire la langue de la libération. Présent dès le début du projet, Dylan Valley capte des moments uniques, à partir des histoires personnelles des acteurs et de l’équipe de production, qui reflètent ce qui se déroule sur la scène.

This documentary is, first of all, a theatre piece entitled Afrikaaps within a film. It is based on the creative processes and performances of the stage production. Using hip hop, Afrikaaps, the film and the stage play, breaks ground by boldly attempting to reclaim Afrikaans – so long considered a language of the oppressor – as a language of liberation. Present from the very beginning of the project, Dylan Valley captures revealing moments of the cast’s and production crew’s personal narratives that transcend what happens on stage.
