Un documental de ficción que muestra la ciudad de Dakar mientras se desarrolla en off una conversación entre un senegalés (el propio director Djibril Diop Mambéty) y una francesa, Inge Hirschnitz. En un pintoresco carro tirado por un caballo, recorren de forma caótica los barrios residenciales y populares de la capital senegalesa, ciudad de contrastes: niñas senegalesas vestidas de comunión delante de la iglesia, musulmanes rezando en la calzada, la arquitectura rococó de los edificios oficiales, humildes tiendas de artesanos en las cercanías del gran mercado.

Ce documentaire-fiction montre la ville de Dakar avec une conversation en voix over entre un Sénégalais (Mambéty) et une Française, Inge Hirschnitz. Dans une pittoresque charrette hippomobile, un parcours souvent chaotique dans les quartiers résidentiels et populeux de la capitale sénégalaise, ville de tous les contrastes : petites communiantes africaines sur le parvis de l’église, fidèles musulmans qui prient sur la chaussée, architecture rococo des bâtiments officiels, modestes échoppes des maîtres artisans aux abords du marché.

ENGLISH

A fictional documentary that portrays the city of Dakar as we hear the conversation between a Senegalese man (the director, Djibril Diop Mambéty) and a French woman, Inge Hirschnitz. As we travel through the city in a picturesque horse drawn wagon, we chaotically rush into this and that popular neighborhood of the capital, discovering contrast after contrast: A small African community waiting at the Church’s door, Muslims praying on the sidewalk, the Rococo architecture of the Government buildings, the modest stores of the craftsmen near the main market.
