¿Quién era Léopold Senghor? Pobló la juventud del cineasta, convirtió la negritud en asunto de Estado, siempre defendió el idioma francés; por todo esto, el cineasta Samba Félix Ndiaye tuvo ganas de traspasar los secretos del gobernante. Para conseguirlo, recurrió a sus propios recuerdos y a los de sus allegados, además de entrevistar a los vecinos del pueblo donde nació Senghor. Una evocación poética y original de una figura ineludible en el África del siglo XX.

Qui était Léopold Sedar Senghor ? Parce qu’il a hanté la jeunesse du cinéaste, parce qu’il a fait de la négritude une affaire d’État, parce qu’il a toujours défendu la langue française, le dirigeant et penseur sénégalais a donné à Samba Félix Ndiaye l’envie de percer ses secrets. Pour cela, le réalisateur a réveillé ses souvenirs et ceux de ses proches et il a interviewé les habitants du village natal de Léopold Sedar Senghor. Au final, le film est une évocation poétique et originale d’une figure incontournable de l’Afrique du 20e siècle.

Who was Léopold Senghor? He haunted the filmmaker’s youth, he made Negritude an affair of the State, and he always defended the French language. For these and other reasons, Samba Félix Ndiaye wanted to discover the secrets of this leader and thinker. To do so, he delved into his own memories and into those of those closest to him, and interviewed the inhabitants of the village where Senghor was born. A poetic and original reminiscence of a XX century African figure that cannot be ignored.
