Los años ochenta en Matabelandia, Zimbabue. Elizabeth es una chica a la que le encanta contar historias. Llega a un campo de guerrilleros para pedir ayuda y decide contarles la mejor historia acerca de su pueblo, de extraños, de fantasmas, del túnel que cavó su padre para llegar a la ciudad y de cómo ella fue a buscarle. A medida que habla, intenta encontrar la verdad, mezclando realidad y ficción. Pero la realidad no está lejos, y si quiere sobrevivir, deberá mirarla de frente.

Situé dans le Matabeleland (Zimbabwe) des années 1980, Le Tunnel suit Elizabeth, une jeune fille qui adore inventer des histoires à dormir debout. Alors qu’elle arrive dans un camp de guérilleros pour demander de l’aide, elle doit raconter sa plus belle histoire, celle de son village, d’étrangers, de fantômes, du jour où son père a creusé un tunnel vers la ville et son expédition à elle pour le retrouver. Elizabeth s’embarque alors dans une quête de la vérité, mêlant réalité et fiction. Mais la réalité n’est jamais loin et, pour sauver son village, Elizabeth doit s’y confronter.

Set in Matabeleland during the 80s, The Tunnel follows young Elizabeth, who loves inventing tall tales. When she arrives at a guerilla camp desperate for help, Elizabeth must tell her greatest story of all, a story about her village, strangers, ghosts, the day her father dug a tunnel to the city and her journey to find him. As the story unfolds, Elizabeth embarks on a quest for truth, weaving together fact and illusion. But reality is not far behind and, to save her village, Elizabeth will have to confront it.
