SINOPSIS
En Mertoutek, un pueblo enclavado en las montañas de Hoggar, en el sur del Sáhara argelino, los habitantes viven rodeados de arte rupestre antiguo y del legado de las pruebas nucleares francesas de los años sesenta. Utilizando el paisaje como testigo, la película explora esta historia olvidada que pervive en la ecología y los cuerpos de los aldeanos. Invirtiendo la narrativa francesa del triunfo tecnológico, la película regresa al lugar de las detonaciones para explorar el tiempo, la justicia, la descolonización y la resiliencia frente a un colonialismo tóxico que perdura.
SYNOPSIS
In Mertoutek, a village nestled in the Hoggar Mountains of Algeria’s Southern Sahara, the residents live surrounded by ancient rock art and the legacy of France’s nuclear testing in the 1960s. Summoning the landscape as a witness, the film explores this forgotten history, which continues to live in the ecology and bodies of Mertoutek’s residents. Inverting the French narrative of technological triumph, the film returns to the site of the detonations to explore time, justice, decolonisation and resilience in the face of enduring toxic colonialism.

À Mertoutek, un village niché dans les montagnes du Hoggar, dans le sud du Sahara algérien, les habitants vivent entourés d’art rupestre ancien et de l’héritage des essais nucléaires français des années 60. En prenant le paysage comme témoin, le film explore cette histoire oubliée qui continue à vivre dans l’écologie et les corps des villageois. Inversant le récit français du triomphe technologique, le film retourne sur le site des détonations pour explorer le temps, la justice, la décolonisation et la résilience face à un colonialisme toxique qui perdure.
