La película Soleil Ô, rodada en cuatro años con un presupuesto muy reducido, cuenta la historia de un inmigrante negro que va a París, al país de “sus antepasados los galos”. Este manifiesto denuncia una nueva forma de esclavitud: el inmigrante busca desesperadamente trabajo, un lugar donde vivir, pero solo encuentra indiferencia, rechazo, humillación… hasta el grito final de rebelión. “Soleil Ô” es el título de un canto antillano que narra el dolor de los negros de Dahomey (ahora Benín) que fueron llevados como esclavos al Caribe.

Tourné en quatre ans avec un maigre budget, Soleil Ô trace le portrait d’un immigré noir qui monte à Paris, au pays de « ses ancêtres les Gaulois ». Ce film-manifeste dénonce une nouvelle forme d’esclavage : l’immigré essaie désespérément de trouver un travail, un logement, mais doit faire face à l’indifférence, au rejet, à l’humiliation… jusqu’au hurlement final de révolte. À l’origine, Soleil Ô est le titre d’un chant antillais qui raconte la douleur des Noirs amenés du Dahomey (Bénin) aux Caraïbes pour être réduits en esclavage.

The film Soleil Ô, shot over four years with a very low budget, tells the story of a black immigrant who makes his way to Paris in search of “his Gaul ancestors”. This manifesto denounces a new form of slavery: The immigrants desperately seek work, a place to live, but find themselves face to face with indifference, rejection, humiliation… Until the final call for uprising. “Soleil Ô” is the title of a West Indian song that tells of the pain of the black people from Dahomey (now Benin) who were taken to the Caribbean as slaves.
