Entre 1960 y 1966, al sur de Reggane (Sahara argelino), Francia realizó cuatro ensayos nucleares a cielo abierto y otros trece subterráneos. El primero se llamó Gerboise bleue (Gerbo azul) y tuvo una potencia cuatro veces superior a la bomba de Hiroshima. Por primera vez, supervivientes franceses y tuareg hablan de su lucha para que reconozcan sus enfermedades, y revelan en qué condiciones se hicieron estas pruebas. Cincuenta años después, el ejército francés sigue sin reconocer su responsabilidad hacia las poblaciones expuestas a las radiaciones.

De 1960 à 1966, au sud de Reggane (Sahara algérien), la France a procédé à quatre essais nucléaires en atmosphère et treize souterrains. Le premier portait le nom de code Gerboise bleue et fut d’une puissance quatre fois supérieure à Hiroshima. Pour la première fois, des survivants français et touaregs témoignent de leurs combats pour la reconnaissance de leurs maladies, et révèlent dans quelles conditions les tirs se sont véritablement déroulés. Tandis que l’armée française continue, près de 50 ans plus tard, à nier sa responsabilité auprès des populations exposées aux radiations.

ENGLISH

Between 1960 and 1966, France carried out four atmospheric nuclear tests and another thirteen underground ones to the South of Reggane (Algerian Sahara). The first was called Blue Jerboa and was four times as powerful as the bomb dropped on Hiroshima. For the first time, French and Tuareg survivors speak of their fight to have their illnesses recognized as such, and reveal in what the conditions the tests were carried out. Fifty years later, the French Army still refuses to acknowledge its responsibility towards the populations exposed to the radiation.
