SINOPSIS

El Hadj Abdoukader Beye, hombre de negocios senegalés, se casa por tercera vez, demostrando así su éxito social y económico. Pero la noche de bodas, descubre que es incapaz de consumar la unión, es impotente. Al principio sospecha de sus dos primeras esposas, sin darse cuenta de que se cruza con el culpable cada día. Basada en una novela de Ousmane Sembène, la película critica la actitud de los dirigentes africanos después de la Independencia. Subraya su codicia y su incapacidad para romper con las influencias extranjeras.

Un homme d’affaires sénégalais, El Hadj Abdoukader Beye, prend une troisième épouse, preuve de sa réussite sociale et économique. Mais le soir du mariage, il ne peut consommer son union : il est devenu impuissant. Il soupçonne ses deux premières épouses, et ne se rend pas compte qu’il croise le coupable chaque jour. Tiré d’un roman de Ousmane Sembène, le film critique l’impuissance des dirigeants africains depuis les indépendances. Il pointe du doigt leur avidité et leur incapacité à casser les influences étrangères.

El Hadj Abdoukader Beye, a Senegalese businessman, marries for the third time, thereby demonstrating his social and economical success. But on the wedding night he discovers that he is incapable of consummating the marriage, he has become impotent. At the beginning, he suspects his two wives, without realizing that he walks by the true guilty party every day. Based on a novel by Ousmane Sembène, the film criticizes the African leaders’ attitude after Independence, underlining their greed and their inability to step away from foreign influences.
